The Rhine Valley

Today was a dream! Wow, what an amazing day!  The Rhine River and its small towns is out of this world.  Have I said enough?

After a delicious authentic German breakfast with our B&B hostess Lettie (we had a conversation with a couple whose son lives in Asheville-- whaaaat?), we walked around Bacharach and followed Rick Steve's self-guided tour.  The thing that amazes us about Europe is the immense history...I mean, this place is old!  I know that sounds stupid, but while staring at castles, churches and houses that were constructed in the 13th century...that's all we could think!

We spent the beginning of our afternoon cruising the Rhine to the town of St. Goar and touring an old ruined castle, it was so much fun!

Incredible! Some of what you didn't see was us crawling through 3-foot tall pitch-black mine tunnels and exploring dungeons.

The rest of our evening was spent exploring some pretty rugged trails, chatting with a friendly German man on one of those trails (for an hour), and eating a delicious dinner at the oldest house in town.

Tomorrow it's back on the road to Rothenberg. Bye!

Sally
